The Stylish Guide to: Why Trends Don’t Matter

If you have followed me for any time at all, you know the basis of my business is not only helping my clients see themselves through God’s eyes—but also reassuring them that being Stylish does not mean being trendy.

I fully believe that through fast fashion, influencers, and societal pressure from social media, women are bombarded daily with the next new trend—whether it’s skincare, clothing, parenting advice, or more.

We end up busting our budgets and creating mental overwhelm by constantly chasing the next best thing—the next trend, the next parenting book, the next skincare product that promises to make us look 17 again. It’s exhausting. And while I’m not here to give parenting or skincare advice, I am here to bust the myth that being stylish means being trendy.

We’ve all seen it—the “must-have” item everyone is suddenly wearing. The coolest piece. The trendiest garment. And guess what? In five years, it’ll probably be collecting dust in the back of your closet while you quietly wonder why you bought it in the first place.

You look back at photos and realize it wasn’t even the most flattering thing you’ve owned. Why? Because trends are not designed with your body type, proportions, lifestyle, or personality in mind. They are created to sell.

So what is worth investing in? First, keep in mind that the word “investment” looks different for everyone. Personally, there are a few pieces I include on almost every shopping list for my clients: a crisp button-down, timeless straight-leg jeans, and a great blazer. Why? Because those pieces are classic, versatile, and never truly go out of style.

And if “classic” isn’t your personality, that doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to feel boring. Those staples can easily be brought to life with color, embellishments, accessories, textures, and patterns that make the outfit feel uniquely you.

I also firmly believe that proper fit, balanced proportions, and flattering silhouettes are a thousand times more striking than whatever trend an influencer told you to buy last week. Even if it came from Goodwill or Target, a well-fitting outfit will almost always look more elevated and expensive than a trendy outfit that doesn’t flatter you.

What I want every woman to understand is this: the fashion industry pushes trends to sell more, but personal style is about understanding what works for you—your lifestyle, your body type, and your personality.

The wrong trend can make getting dressed feel frustrating and discouraging. God created every body differently, so style shouldn’t be about forcing yourself into trends that were never made for you. It should be about honoring the body and life He gave you with confidence, intention, and joy.
